Spiderman City Drive Game Review
Spiderman is a valuable property. Through it's comics, movies, TV shows and games, the Spiderman franchise has been a successful one. However, being a popular property means it's that much easier to create opportunities using Spiderman, because it has an iron clad fan base present and accounted for. The creators of the game Spiderman City Drive had this concept in mind when they made this game. Spiderman and motorbikes don't usually go together, but they're both cool so why not? Enter Spiderman City Drive.
The game begins with the sweeping music the Spiderman movies have been associated with. It guides you to a rather dark image of the thunder, lightning and a full moon and descends onto the menu screen. There are not much options here, play, help and levels. Levels being the only one a plus because it helps you save your progress. The help options basically state to use the directional keys to control Spiderman. When entering the game itself you are greeted with the same dark screen and a background that are silhouettes of buildings. There is not much detail in the background at all. The rainy effects was a good touch though. However with this environment, it would be a better Batman game. The music is good, because they used the same track in the movie.
In terms of gameplay, it is pretty average. As Spiderman, you ride his 'Spiderbike' and jump from building to building to building with a little extra shapes thrown in for challenge. They are all silhouettes so you can only guess if you are riding a crane or a pole. You can go pretty far just using the accelerate key and using common sense to slow down in tricky spots. When riding, you can collect icons that give you more points. You are given three lives in all so when that is finished , you begin the game anew. You are given a chance to place your name on a scoreboard, which is good for the folks who reached pretty far in the game.
The game has it's sense of speed and the level of distance is good. At times it can be pretty smooth and feels easy to play. It cannot be defined as a challenging game but it may help stave off boredom. Spiderman City Drive fails in it's attempt to be an original game and an attempt to be anything dynamic. Nothing is particularly terrible about about it.It just feels uninspired and a bit boring.
It will occupy and entertain kids and help adults waste some time. It just may not offer anything particularly stimulating. For people who don't usually play flash games, you will have fun playing it.It is not as frustratingly hard as some others. For people with experience in flash games, it's best to go after a legitimate motorcycle game. They possess better gameplay dynamics and more genuine concepts. By all accounts, this is an average, run of the mill racing game with Spiderman thrown in. (why does he need a bike anyway?)
